Types & Designations

Military jet fuel is usually made from civilian jet fuel with specific volumes of additives added:

  • CI/LI (corrosion inhibitor/lubricity improver)
  • FSII (fuel system icing inhibitor)
  • SDA (static dissipater additive)

U.S. DoD, NATO, and the U.K. MoD provide specifications for additives and military-grade fuels.
U.S. Military JP8 and NATO F34 are both based on Jet A1. The difference is the acceptable volume of FSII added.
F24 is similar to JP8 but is based on JetA.
For safety reasons, ship-based operators like the Marines and Navy use a base aviation fuel with a higher flashpoint. The same additives are used with the fuel. This fuel is F44 (NATO) or JP5 (U.S.).

Sustainable Fuels

We are monitoring the ever-accelerating development of new sustainable alternatives and we benchmark against the criteria of military operations. So far, the majority fails as immature or technical non-compliant, but a few products such as HVO and SAF has qualified for our product portfolio.
