Types & Designations of Military Jet Fuel

Military jet fuel is usually made from civilian jet fuel with specific volumes of additives added:

  • CI/LI (corrosion inhibitor/lubricity improver)
  • FSII (fuel system icing inhibitor)
  • SDA (static dissipater additive)

U.S. DoD, NATO, and the U.K. MoD provide specifications for additives and military-grade fuels.
U.S. Military JP8 and NATO F34 are both based on Jet A1. The difference is the acceptable volume of FSII added.
F24 is similar to JP8 but is based on JetA.
For safety reasons, ship-based operators like the Marines and Navy use a base aviation fuel with a higher flashpoint. The same additives are used with the fuel. This fuel is F44 (NATO) or JP5 (U.S.).

Sustainable Fuels for Military

We are monitoring the ever-accelerating development of new sustainable alternatives and we benchmark against the criteria of military operations. So far, the majority fails as immature or technical non-compliant, but a few products such as HVO and SAF has qualified for our product portfolio.

Quality and Safety of Our Military Fuels

Our quality and safety approach includes fuel testing (full-scale up to A-level), equipment calibration, fuel training and other HSSE services. In addition, we offer a comprehensive Fuel Management System, which automates key data collection enabling real-time visibility of military fuel operations.

World Fuel Services is engaged in the acquisition, storage, transportation, and marketing of aviation fuels which is then supplied to governmental and/or military organizations around the world.

World Fuel maintains a Quality Management System (QMS) which is the formalized system that documents processes, procedures, and responsibilities for achieving quality policies and objectives. The QMS helps coordinate and direct World Fuel's activities to meet customer requirements and improve its effectiveness and efficiency on a continuous basis.

The World Fuel QMS is a tool used to develop location specific Quality Management Plans (QMP) which meet and/or exceed customer expectations.
